The Yarn Place is extremely pleased that the Gossamer Webs, Orenburg Lace Tour traveled to our shop.

Workshop focus:

Square shawl. The provisional cast-on which is later removed so stitches can be picked up and knit in the other direction fascinated me. Although the class focused on the square shawl, all three patterns were packaged together and students were able to make all three after taking the workshop.

Workshop materials:

Fingering weight (7 - 8 sts/in) or superfine yarns were used for practicing the samples during the workshop. K1C2's Douceur and Douceur et Soie, both ideal for making a gossamer lace shawl, were also available. Douceur is available in hanks and is a hand-dyed ombre; Douceur et Soie is the same yarn in a wide range of solid colors. Both are the same mohair / silk combination ideal for Orenburg lace. The silk gives the more fragile mohair the strength possible to spin it out into such delicate strands while still being workable and tough.
